space150’s Holiday Card Ponders: Is it better to #give or to #receive?

UPDATE II: The results are in! Check it out here

UPDATE: As of 5:41 p.m. on Dec. 16, 150 people have tweeted @space150 #give or #receive, which means that a total of $1,500 will be split between donations to the PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center and sent to individuals who decided to receive this holiday season (good news :: very few people chose receive). We will be sharing final results of our holiday card soon. A HUGE thank you to all who have participated in our holiday card experiemnt. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

It’s called the season of giving, but this year, space150 has decided to put that idea to the test. As a kind of social experiment, we’re giving 150 random people $10 and letting them decide whether to donate it to a worthy cause, or keep it for themselves.

Through several channels — including a bus shelter ad on 3rd Ave. N. and Washington Ave. in Minneapolis (near our headquarters), flyers (our founder was feeling very analog last week;-), and social media — we’re asking people to tweet @space150  #give or #receive to determine where the money goes.

The directions are simple:

  • Include #give in your tweet and we’ll donate $10 on your behalf to help fight cyber bullying — through Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center.
  • Include #receive and we’ll cut you a check for $10, no strings attached (well, aside from a little grief on Twitter).

What do you think? Will people #give or #receive this holiday season? We'll provide updates in the next few weeks.

*space150 #give or #receive begins Dec. 13, 2013 and ends on Dec. 27, 2013 or when 150 people have tweeted space150 #give or #receive. One entry per person. Official Rules.
